Setting up a panel, choosing what it shows, what each screen means, and what to do when something goes wrong. If your question isn't here, write to support@gridticker.com.
Setting up a panel
- Plug the panel in. After a minute it shows JOIN WIFI and a network name.
- On your phone, join that Wi-Fi network: GRIDTICKER on newer panels, TICKER on older ones. It has no password.
- A setup page opens by itself. If it doesn't, open your browser and go to
http://10.42.0.1. - Pick your home Wi-Fi network, type its password and send it. The panel shows JOINING WIFI while it tries.
- Once it's online, the panel shows a short code and an address. Your phone usually goes straight to the page that links the panel to your account. If it doesn't, go to the address on the panel, sign in to GridTicker, and type the code in: the address opens Settings → LED panels. A code lasts 30 minutes, and the panel shows a new one if it runs out.
- The panel shows GRIDTICKER with READY under it, then starts scrolling. From now on it updates itself.
Choosing what's on your ticker
- Settings → General sets which tickers appear where: the browser, your LED panels, or both. Each ticker can be on in one place and off in another.
- Each ticker has its own section: pick your leagues and favorite teams under Sports, your watchlist under Stocks, your outlets under News, and your home airport under Flights.
- General also holds the schedule: when each ticker appears, day by day.
- Living room is one switch that overrides everything on your panels: dark, or seasonal artwork. It changes back just as quickly.
- LED panels lists your panels. Removing a panel there makes it forget your Wi-Fi and go back to setup.
What the panel is telling you
| Screen | What it means |
|---|---|
| GRIDTICKER drawing itself in, with a line under it | The panel is starting up and fetching your scores. You'll see this for a few seconds after every restart, or longer while your Wi-Fi comes back. Then it slides away and your scores follow it in. |
| GRIDTICKER with CONNECTING under it | The panel is on your Wi-Fi and trying to reach us. If it stays like this, check that your internet is working. |
| SETUP STARTING | The panel is starting its own Wi-Fi network. Give it a minute. |
| JOIN WIFI and a network name | Join that network from your phone to set the panel up. A line underneath means the last attempt failed, and says why. See the table below. |
| JOINING WIFI | The panel is connecting to your home network, or waiting for it to come back after a power cut. |
| ENTER THIS CODE or SETUP AT | The panel is online and waiting to be linked to an account. Go to the address shown and type the code in. |
| GRIDTICKER with READY under it | Linked to your account. Scores are on their way. |
| SETUP ERROR | The panel couldn't start its own Wi-Fi network. Unplug it for ten seconds and plug it back in; if it keeps happening, write to us. |
| UPDATING | The panel is installing an update and will restart by itself when the bar fills, about ten seconds. Leave it plugged in. |
| RESTARTING | The panel was asked to restart, and will be back in a moment. |
| NO GAMES RIGHT NOW | Nothing you follow is on at the moment. Add more under Settings, or look at your schedule. |
| Dark | A schedule has turned the panel off for now, or living room mode is on. |
Why joining your Wi-Fi failed
| Line on the panel | What to do |
|---|---|
| WRONG PASSWORD | Your router refused the password. Check it, including capital letters, and try again. |
| NO PASSWORD SENT | The password box was empty. Try again and type the password in. |
| NETWORK NOT FOUND | The panel can't see that network. Check the name, including capital letters, and try the panel closer to the router. |
| NO IP ADDRESS | The panel joined, but the network never gave it an address. This is usually a router or extender problem: check whether your phone can get online on the same network. |
| NO INTERNET | The panel joined, but the network isn't reaching the internet. Check your internet connection. |
| RADIO NOT READY | The panel's Wi-Fi wasn't ready. Wait a minute and try again. |
| HOTSPOT FAILED | The panel couldn't start its own network. Unplug it for ten seconds and plug it back in. |
| COULD NOT JOIN | Something else went wrong. Try again; if it keeps happening, write to us. |
Troubleshooting
After a power cut
When the power comes back, a panel waits up to ten minutes for your Wi-Fi to come back too, showing JOINING WIFI. Routers are slow to start, so be patient. If your network still isn't back after that, the panel shows JOIN WIFI so you can set it up again. It's still linked to your account, so you won't need a new code.
You changed your Wi-Fi name or password
After ten minutes without its network, the panel shows JOIN WIFI. Set it up again from step 2 above; it stays linked to your account.
You bought or were given a panel
If the panel is still linked to the previous owner's account, plug it in at your place and wait: after ten minutes without its old Wi-Fi it shows JOIN WIFI. Set it up from step 2 above, and on the setup page tick This panel is mine now before you connect. The panel leaves the previous owner's account, forgets their Wi-Fi, and shows a code for you to link it to yours.
Giving a panel away? Remove it under Settings → LED panels first, and it's ready for its next owner straight away.
The panel shows something you didn't expect
Changes you make in Settings reach a panel within a few minutes. If a panel seems stuck, unplug it for ten seconds. If that doesn't fix it, write to us with the panel's name from Settings → LED panels.
Scores look late
GridTicker gets its scores from public sports data providers, which can run a little behind the broadcast.
Your account
- New accounts are by invitation while GridTicker is in testing.
- Recovery email under Settings → Account. We send a link to the address you give us, and it only counts once you follow that link — so a typo can't lock you out of your own account. Remove it there whenever you like.
- Forgot your password? Use the link on the sign-in page. If your account has a confirmed recovery email, we send a reset link to it: the link works once, for 30 minutes, and using it signs out everywhere else. Without a recovery email there's nothing for us to send to, so write to support@gridticker.com with your username instead.
- Change your password under Settings → Account. Everywhere else you're signed in is signed out.
- Delete your account under Settings → Account. See Delete your account for what that removes.
